Tips

    *** Intro ***  ▲

Welcome to our collection of tips & tricks for the online-game "Forge of Empires".
Top 3 tips:
♦ Hold down the mousebutton when collecting your city - no need to click
   every single building.
♦ HOVER EVERYTHING... you'll find lots of helpful informations.
♦ Keep your roads to a minimum!

    *** Abbreviations ***  ▲

♦ Ages:
BA = Bronze Age
IA = Iron Age
EMA = Early Middle Age
HMA = High Middle Age
LMA = Late Middle Age
CA = Colonial Age
IND = Industrial Age
PE = Progressive Era
ME = Modern Era
PME = PostModern Era
CE = Contemporary Era
TE = Tomorrow
TF = The Future
AF = Arctic Future
OF = Aceanic Future
GE = Guild Expedition
GvG = Guild vs. Guild
PvP = Player vs. Player
GB = Great Building
FP = ForgePoint
Polivate = Polish/Motivate

♦ PSC-Codes:
P = Polish
S = Supplies (Motivate Supplies, e.g. FruitFarm)
C = Coins (Motivate Houses, e.g. Chalet)
$oK/SoK = Shrine of Knowledge
HoF = Hall of Fame

    *** Aid ***  ▲

With your city design you can influence the results of the aiding.

So far, the algorithm is:
- Buildings with a special feature first (SoK, Tigers Den, Oasis)
- 50:50 for Polish or Motivate
- current age first, then previous age, ...

Less buildings in the city = better chance to get everything aided:
- Use bigger buildings, e.g. remove some Alchemists and build one Farm.
- Use one Cultural building instead of many decos.
- Upgrade your roads to provide happiness! = less cultural buildings = more motivations ;)

Highest age gets motivated first:
- If you want your Clapboard houses motivated (8Hrs), don't build 1hr houses from the new age
- You enter a new age and need Supplies: upgrade Supply buildings.
- You enter a new age and need Coins: upgrade Houses.

BTW: You can't motivate goods buildings, terrace farms or wishing wells (and some other event buildings).

    *** Great Buildings ***  ▲

I see many players rushing through the ages.
Running into the next age to get "stronger" troops doesn't make you stronger.
You only end up in a new hood with players from your new age.

The only way to become STRONGER are Great Buildings.
They are absolutely worth building!
IHMO GBs are the key to this game ;)

The higher the Level of the GB, the bigger the FP-Packs/medals and three or more BluePrints (BPs).

Spending ForgePoints (FPs) on other players GBs is not a waste: The FP-Packages are worth their weight in gold, as you can use them later (when you got your GB) to work on your Techtree or another GB.

    *** Medals ***  ▲

♦ You can win medals as reward for leveling other Player's GBs and in the PvP Tower (finishes Sunday night) or as a reward after solving an Encounter in GE.
♦ GBs and some special buildings can also produce medals.
♦ Medals are used for Expansions. Space is rare in this game => more Medals = more building space!!
♦ Medals can now also be used to buy attempts in the Guild Expedition and there's a no age GvG Continent, where you pay with medals instead of goods.

    *** Guild Expedition ***  ▲

You really should give it a try: you win random stuff, doing GE is a huge benefit for your city!

♦ The Guild Expedition is available for ALL players - mobile and PC.
♦ You play on your on the Guild Continent Map and try to reveal as much as you can.
♦ After every successfully solved encounter you can win something! Sometimes it's "just" Coins and Supplies, a building from your age, decos, unattached troops (great for your defence!) or some goods. But you can also win medals, special buildings and even Diamonds! However: you get some stuff for FREE!
♦ As usual: The higher the Level - the higher the rewards, but it also becomes more and more difficult.
♦ At the end of Level 4 you have a 50/50 chance for one of the Special rewards like Terrace Farm, Sacred Sky Watch, Fountain of Youth or Renovation Kit!

♦ You get 1 Attempt per hour and start with 8 Attempts. You can buy more Attempts with medals or diamonds.
♦ You can also win Attempts as a reward during the GE, then the counter exceeds the limit of 8 (like the FP-Counter).

♦ GE has 2 options: fight or negotiate.
GE is purrfect to learn fighting as you start with simple battles against 3 previous age troops. You don't step on anyone's toes and you can try and surrender as long as you have Attempts. Your fighting points count for the PvP tower, by doing GE you may win some extra medals! If you can't go on fighting: try negotiating ;)
Sometimes it helps to negotiate one or two encounters and then you can go on fighting for a bit.

You can also play GE only with negotiating. The first few riddles are very simple, you can't fail!! The riddles also get tougher while you progress.

♦ Level 1 (the first 16 Encounters) is simple. You can do this with a bit of luck, sometimes you may need to give up and try again.
♦ Level 2 (17-32) is also possible with patience and luck. You may burn a couple of goods/troops and attempts though! (Remember: Give up and try again is always an option!)
♦ Level 3 (33-48) getting tough!
♦ Level 4 (49-64) Danger! But the rewards are 100% worth it!!!

When riddling, it really helps to activate the 4th turn. This is a boost you, can activate in your Tavern. I usually wait until I have 8 Attempts, then I buy the 15Min Extra Turn for 1500 Tavern Silver. If 4 turns aren't enough, I use 10 Diamonds for the 5th turn, but mostly only when I'm sure that I can solve it (e.g. when 3 are green and the other two are yellow: I just need to exchange the yellows and it's solved.)

For those who don't know the game: it's called "Mastermind". Try googling for it ;)
Maybe you find an online-trainer for it to practice without burning goods...

PS: This week on Houndsmoore, I've won 175 Diamonds in Level 4!!! (And some more in the first 3 levels, I think about 35-45.)
Lucky Duck, yes, but as I said: the higher the level - the better the rewards!!

That's why we offer the FULL GE Experience EVERY WEEK!
You don't need to participate, but you have to donate your part of the goods costs (see Guild Treasury), so everyone else who like to GE can do so.

    *** Guild Championship ***  ▲

♦ Every solved encounter during the Guild Expedition counts for the Championship.
♦ If ALL members of a guild solve 48 encounters (Level 3) the guild has 100%.
♦ Every member exceeding 48 fights gets a red flame. 3 guildies with all 64 encounters solved can balance a member not participating at all.
♦ Every solved Encounter levels up the bar in the top center of the screen. When the bar is full, the guild gains some guildpower! (See Hall of Fame)

Please try to solve as many Encounters as you can, not just for your own wealth, but also for the guild as the top 3 Guilds get a bonus on their guildpower!
Riddling the fist 16 Encounters cost you 3x 15Minutes as it's REALLY simple!
Wait for 8 Attempts, solve as many Encounters as you can and come back 8 hrs later... (When you need to give up here and there it's like 3x using 8 Attempts.)

    *** Hall of Fame ***  ▲

Hall of Fames benefit the GUILD, so it's the Guild's job to MOTIVATE THEM!
(Motivated buildings can't be plundered!)
Don't motivate other guild's HoFs, plunder them ;)

The Hall of Fame produces Guildpower, which is used to level up our guild.
How to get to your Guild:
The Button with "3 People" on it. Then the Button with the "Shield".
The Tab is called "Level", there you can see our actual Level, the actual benefits and the progress for the next level.

Benefits:
- Prestige Bonus: Guildranking is calculated by Prestige. The more Prestige, the
  higher our guild is ranked in global ranking.
- Support Pool Bonus: The Support Pool is used in GvG to increase the defense of
  our Sectors.
- Recruitment Boost: Reduces the time needed to heal and recruit units.
- Research Boost: Produces x ForgePoints per day in your Townhall.
- Building Rebate: Reduces Coin and Supply Cost of all buildings.

    *** Fair Trades ***  ▲

Fair trades are based on the production costs, which increase every age.
e.g. a 4hr IA goods production cost double amount of coins and supplies than a 4hr BA goods production
=> 1 IA : 2 BA goods

Fair trades within guild! Fair play!
You are allowed to make unfair offers, but don't expect us to take them ;)
If you're not sure whether a trade is fair or not,
use our Fair Trade Calculator.

Trading within guild is "duty-free", you don't have to pay a FP.
Neigbors and friends won't pay a FP for small trades (except if they urgently need something).
If you have a large amount of a good, put up a large trade (50+) to re-arrange your stocks.
Try to stockpile rare goods (goods ALL guildys seem to search) and help your fellow guildmates with their trades.
>>>Teamwork is the key to success ;)

If you need an "urgent" trade, put up an offer and announce it in guildchat.
We have many helpful lurkers ;)
Please don't forget to check the tradeboard from time to time and help others :D
What goes around...comes around ;)

    *** Boosted Goods ***  ▲

5 goods/age
2 boosted goods/age

Build boosted goods ONLY! and trade for the other 3.
Boosted = same costs, 5x more goods!

Stockpile goods, you will need them later!
>For GBs, your research or to help your fellow guildmates ;)

Get your boost by conquering the Sectors on the Continent map.
Conquering means fight OR negotiate.

I recommend to fight! Negotiating is wasting goods :(
I only negotiate if a quest wants me to do so.

    *** Fighting ***  ▲

The Continent map is purrfect to learn fighting:
- You see the enemy troops and can select your counter-troops.
- You ALWAYS get the same terrain!
- Mouseover (hover) the terrain to see the boosts of the different units.
- Surrender and try out different troops...

Surrender is a strategy... try again and get better ;)
If you need help...ASK!

I never do auto-battles, I would loose to much troops.

Terrain examples:
Light Units (Spearfighter, Soldier, Mercenary) get defense Bonus in trees and bushes
  (try to hide as much as possible on your way forward to Ranged or Siege Units)
Heavy Units (Warrior, Legionnaire, Armored Infantry) get attack Bonus on plains,
  but they stick on swamp (less movement!)
Ranged Units (Slinger, Archer) get attack bonus on rocks
Fast Units (Horses) can't walk on/over rocks
Siege Weapons (Catapult etc.) get attack Bonus on Hills

Attack Bonus:
Light Unit -> Fast Unit -> Ranged Unit -> Heavy Unit -> Light Unit

If you use the terrain and the attack bonus right, even troops of an lower age can win! See screenshots:
BA Troops win against EMA Troops!!! BA vs EMA
Look at the Points and the number of fights!!! BA Tower
Collection: BA Troops win against IA/EMA Troops!!! BA vs IA/EMA

Thanx zg5258 for the nice Screenshots ;)

PVP:
- You only get points if you win the battle.
- You get points for all produced damage.
- Taken damage lowers the points.
- City Happiness of 120% works also in PvP! Keep your people happy ;)
- You get points for the tower of your highest troop!
  (7 BA troops, 1 IA troop = IA PvP points)

Hope this helps a bit, please correct me if I'm wrong ;)

    *** Plunder ***  ▲

Attack and plunder are PART of this GAME.
If you can't deal with it, unfortunately this is the wrong game for you :(
BUT if you take it as what is is: a G A M E, the whole plunder thing can get really funny!

1. Set up a full defense of 8 ppl (and rotate it to surprise your attacker).
    YOU LOOSE NOTHING, your defending army is restored after battle.
    Weak attackers loose their troops, troops are expensive. They might give up
    attacking you.
2. If you got breeched - Time your supplies and goods!
    Collect them in time to prevent plundering. goodstimer
3. If you can, take revenge and plunder your attacker!*
4. If you are to weak, polish his decos e.g. a Tree of Love :p
    (Works only if you collect your stuff in time.)

*We can teach you how to fight if you are interested.
Nothing is better then a revenge! Especially if you are able to defeat a "stronger" army ;)

WE ARE CATSSASSINS! NO PUSSYCATS!!! ATTACK!!!

If you need help using your claws... come 2 guildchat ;)
(FYI: My chat is open the whole day, but I'm not non-stop at the PC. It may take some time before I answer, please be patient TY)

    *** Disconnecting your roads to prevent plunder ***  ▲

Buildings stop producing while disconnected.
Other players can't motivate disconnected buildings.
Motivated buildings can't be plundered!!!
Every motivated building = SECURE INCOME!
Disconnecting your roads to prevent plunder is counterproductive.
Your attacker looses nothing... you only harm yourself!
Just my 2 cents, but every building I am able to collect pushes me forward...

    *** Fighting CA+ ***  ▲

♦ CA: Light Units (Ranger) hide in Forests (Stealth).
Ranged weapons are kinda useless as you need to stand right next to a ranger hiding in a tree.

♦ IndA: All Units except horses have a ranged attack.
Light Units (Jaeger) hides in Forest (Stealth), but HeavyUnits (Howitzer) ignores Stealth.

♦ PE: Introducing new Battlefield-Scale 1.5
All Units have a ranged attack.
New Attack/Defense Bonuses:
LightUnit > HeavyUnit + Artillery
Artillery > HeavyUnit + FastUnit
HeavyUnit > RangedUnit + FastUnit
FastUnit > RangedUnit
RangedUnit> LightUnit

♦ ME: More Attack/Defense Bonuses:
LightUnit > HeavyUnit + Artillery
Artillery > HeavyUnit + FastUnit
HeavyUnit > RangedUnit + FastUnit
FastUnit > RangedUnit + LightUnit
RangedUnit> Artillery + LightUnit

♦ PME: More Attack/Defense Bonuses:
LightUnit > HeavyUnit + Artillery
Artillery > HeavyUnit + RangedUnit
HeavyUnit > RangedUnit + FastUnit
FastUnit > Artillery + LightUnit
RangedUnit> FastUnit + LightUnit

    *** Two-Lane Streets ***  ▲

PE introduces two-Lane Streets and Buildings that require a two-Lane Street.
You can connect normal (1-lane) roads to a two-Lane Street, but the two-Lane Streets need to be connected straight to the Townhall without interruption.

    *** Modern Era Goods ***  ▲

From Modern Era on, the GBs produce unrefined Goods.
You have to produce your goods in a goods building, using unrefined goods as raw material.
BA boost = ME boost, raw material = CA
IA boost = PME boost, raw material = IndA
On Modern Era Map, you will get a third BA and a third CA boost to get a higher chance of "independent producing".
(= You can supply yourself with the rawmaterial.)

    *** #SAVETHELASTFP ***  ▲

Please do NOT put the last FP into a GB, leave it to the owner for a double-dip.

Double-dip:
• works at GBs with an active Bonus (such as Babel)
• you collect (e.g. Babel you collect some goods)
• you put in the last FP yourself
• you collect the goods once again ;)

If you're not sure whether a GB has an active Bonus, just leave the last FP to the owner.

    *** Screenshots ***  ▲

• BA vs CE BA vs CE  •  CE Tower CE Tower  •

    *** The End ***  ▲

WOW! You've read ALL that stuff? Now you are an expert :D
If you still have questions... ASK! We don't bite... usually ;)
Have a nice day and happy forging!

Sincerely, KitLeCat
